Embracing Every Opportunity: Benjamin's Story

As passions often intertwine, Benjamin De Luca's life is a vibrant tapestry combined with diverse interests and ambitions. From the thrill of the soccer field to the intricate world of Lego, his multifaceted pursuits have paved the way for a remarkable journey – one that has seen him transition from a dedicated student to a Vocational Education Award winner in Work Education.

During his studies in Certificate I in Work Education 22566VIC, Benjamin had the chance to undertake a three-week work experience placement at Australia Post, where he gained invaluable hands-on experience in the lost mail section and the postie area.

He believed that it was during this time that his dedication and hard work truly shone. "On my last day, I went up to the delivery manager's office and asked if I could have a job and a week later they gave me the call and said that they wanted to hire me," Benjamin recalls.

Multifaceted Passions

Beyond his academic pursuits, Benjamin is a soccer enthusiast, where he plays for two teams, excelling in his position as a left winger – a role that demands speed and endurance. "My position in soccer is on the wing left, which involves lots and lots of running and so I'm one of the fastest on my team," he says.

Benjamin's love for Lego is another facet of his passions. He finds comfort in the intricate models and sets, drawing parallels between the sorting and organising aspects of his job at Australia Post and the assembly of Lego creations. "There are the similarities with Lego and my job would be probably the sorting part of it," he says.

Ambitious Aspirations

Looking ahead, Benjamin's ambitions continue to soar. He is currently pursuing the Certificate IV in Music Sound Production CUA40920, fuelled by his fascination with the behind-the-scenes world of concerts and live events. "I've had an interest in concerts and sort of behind-the-scenes stuff," he says.

A Humbling Achievement

Benjamin's recognition as the Outstanding Student of the Year in Human Services and Education is a reflection of his persistent dedication and the support he received from his family. "My family was very excited when I got the award. I felt shocked. I wasn't expecting it at all," he says.

In celebrating Benjamin's achievements, Melbourne Polytechnic honours not only his academic success but also his ability to embrace opportunities and his firm pursuit of his passions.

His story is indeed an inspiration to others, that success could lie in unexpected moments and it is important to find the courage to seize them.

As Benjamin continues to navigate his journey, his determination and versatility will undoubtedly guide him towards even greater heights.
