After a two-year pandemic hiatus, the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is back bigger and better than ever in 2022. Designs from all exhibitors show just how much this ‘Australian Chelsea’ has been missed and Melbourne Polytechnic students have once again proven that sweeping wins come from hard work, dedication and passion.
Landscape Design students Emma Powell of Macro Micro Gardens, Gina Robertson of New Foliage Design, Sarah Tulloch of Stage and Green and William O‘Neill all took out awards in the Avenue of Achievable Gardens.
In addition to this Emma earned the overall Garden of Excellence Award while Sarah and Gina were awarded the Creative Space and Best Use of Plant Life Awards respectively.
All students and staff worked tirelessly in the lead up to the event, with awards being presented in the two days prior to public access, giving the judges plenty of quiet time to ponder and scrutinise.
Students in Landscape Design and Horticulture compete in the Avenue of Achievable Gardens display and Floristry students in the floral displays, held in the main exhibition building.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show allows students to network with future industry peers and gives them hands-on experience in their chosen careers in a ‘real world’ environment. Past winners have gone on to be award-winning floral and landscape designers, there is no doubt that this experience is priceless for a successful career. We are perpetually proud and amazed at their hard work.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is open to the public on the last Wednesday in March for four days. Visit the Melbourne Polytechnic Education Hub next to the main Carlton Gardens fountain.
