Melbourne Polytechnic students have once again proven their horticultural skills at the 2023 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS), with several students taking home awards.
The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is one of the largest and most prestigious horticultural events in the world, attracting top landscape designers, florists, and horticulturalists from around the globe.
In the Achievable Gardens Competition, Melbourne Polytechnic student Oliver Ashworth-Martin won the Award of Excellence for his garden design "Tea in the Woods." Carla Perry and Daniel Althaus, also Melbourne Polytechnic students, took home medals in the same category. The Achievable Garden Competition is particularly notable, as it recognises the skill and creativity of emerging designers and horticulturalists.
Students Leana Rose Cox and Jacinta Culhane-Pomponio, came in first place and tenth place, respectively, in the Hanging Basket category for their stunning creations.
In the Floral Design – Advanced Student Competition, Melbourne Polytechnic's Anieka Knevett placed second. Overall, Melbourne Polytechnic students won two silvers and three bronze out of our six entries for this category.
It's not just the students who are excelling in the horticultural field - Melbourne Polytechnic Horticulture teacher Alistair Kirkpatrick was awarded first place in the Landscaping Victoria Boutique Garden Award for his design, "Karrikin Garden."
The success of Melbourne Polytechnic's students and staff at the 2023 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by all involved in the lead up to the event.
Students and staff worked tirelessly to perfect their designs and ensure they stood out among the fierce competition. From researching the latest trends and techniques, to sourcing the perfect materials and plants, every detail was carefully considered and executed to achieve the best possible results.
Congratulations to all the students and staff involved in this year's MIFGS!
