We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2024 Provan and Rosenberg Families Carpentry, Joinery, and Cabinet Making Scholarships and the prestigious David Provan and Sons Annual Award for Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinet Making.
These awards were presented during the Carpentry Australia Roadshow held on Monday, November 18th, 2024, at the Melbourne Polytechnic Heidelberg campus. This year’s awards celebrate the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students in the fields of carpentry, joinery, and cabinet making.
The Provan and Rosenberg Families Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding apprentices in the trades of Carpentry, Joinery and Cabinet Making. In 2024, four exceptional students were selected for these scholarships, which provide financial support and recognition for their dedication to their craft.
This year's scholarship recipients are:
Callum Walkinshaw Certificate III in Carpentry CPC30220
Ella McFarlane Certificate III in Carpentry CPC30220
Marie Webb Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology MSF30322
Vivian Blackmore-More Certificate III in Carpentry CPC30220
In addition to the scholarships, we were also proud to present the David Provan and Sons Annual Award for excellence and commitment to the trade. This year, the award was given to Luca Mascaro, Certificate III in Shopfitting CPC30120 student, for his outstanding achievements, including placing first in the 2023 WorldSkills Joinery National championships.
The Provan and Rosenberg Families have been instrumental in supporting the growth of Melbourne’s trade industry, and their generous donation of scholarships and the annual award reflects their ongoing commitment. Established in 2020, these awards were created to honour the legacy of David Provan, a founding member of the Collingwood Technical School (now Melbourne Polytechnic). His dedication to both the trade industry and the community continues to inspire future generations of tradespeople.
Greig Provan, along with Jarrod and Marnie Rosenberg of Provans Timber and Hardware, were present at the ceremony to personally congratulate the recipients, continuing the proud tradition of supporting trade education in Melbourne.
The scholarships provide more than just financial support; they offer students the opportunity to invest in their future.
Scholarship recipient Callum Walkinshaw expressed his gratitude, stating, "This scholarship means a lot to me and my family and will help significantly during these tough economic times. The added support means I can increase my toolkit and continue developing my skills."
Marie Webb, another scholarship recipient, shared her excitement, “Getting the email telling me I’d received this scholarship absolutely made my week. It’s going to allow me to take on new opportunities, advance my career and continue building my skills.
In conjunction with the awards ceremony, Carpentry Australia presented a Roadshow event featuring a range of industry partners. Apprenticeships Victoria, Northern Bullants Football Club, Ramset, Intergrain, Sutton Tools, Stabila, KingGee Workwear, Carbitool and Selleys were on hand sharing information, offering demonstrations and giving insights into the tools of the trade for students to grow their knowledge.
These partnerships showcase the strong connections between Melbourne Polytechnic and the wider carpentry and construction trade. Carpentry Australia’s commitment to supporting students through free membership, industry updates, training opportunities, and more was also highlighted during the event.
Matthew Spencer, Sales and Member Engagement Manager from Carpentry Australia shared, “We aim to equip students with the tools they need to succeed in their careers, both literally and figuratively. Our industry partners, from tool suppliers to insurance providers, are here to ensure that students have the resources and support they need to thrive.”
The Provan and Rosenberg Families ongoing support for Melbourne Polytechnic’s students is a testament to their deep-rooted commitment to the local community and the trades industry.
The 2025 Provan and Rosenberg Family Scholarships will open for new applications in mid-2025. For further information on this scholarship and to search other scholarships available to Melbourne Polytechnic students, check our Scholarships page for updates.
