Andrea Roberts-Davison is an alumna of Melbourne Polytechnic, having graduated in 2000. Originally hailing from the South East of England, she holds a First Class Honours degree in Biochemistry and Pharmacology from the University of Southampton, where she also earned her PhD.
Her doctoral research focused on the X-ray crystal structure of porphobilinogen deaminase from Arabidopsis thaliana, a key plant protein involved in photosynthesis.
After nearly two decades as a dedicated Chemistry teacher, Andrea relocated to Melbourne in 2015 and embarked on a new academic journey, pursuing a degree in Viticulture and Winemaking at Melbourne Polytechnic in 2017. Her passion for the wine industry has since led her to work as a lab technician in a Yarra Valley winery and gain hands-on experience through several wine vintages at prestigious wineries, including Chapel Down in the UK.
In 2019, Andrea launched her own wine label, Pip & Ra Wines, alongside her husband. A strong advocate for the Australian Women in Wine movement, she is also a qualified WSET educator. She now imparts her knowledge to students at Melbourne Polytechnic, teaching core subjects within the Viticulture and Winemaking major of the Bachelor of Agriculture, such as Wine Chemistry, Winemaking, Wine Evaluation, Wine Microbiology, and Vine Physiology.
Passionate about advancing the wine research profile of Melbourne Polytechnic, Andrea is currently involved in innovative projects, including sap flow pruning and exploring Vitis labrusca hybrids. Her blend of academic expertise, practical experience, and commitment to student engagement makes her a valuable asset to the Melbourne Polytechnic community.
