Sitalakshmi Venkatraman

Dr. Sita Venkatraman is an IT Lecturer teaching specialized topics in Business Analytics within the Bachelor of Information Technology program at Melbourne Polytechnic. Sita collaborates with industry and universities to initiate and develop industry-based capstone projects and research publications.

Sita makes use of problem-based learning approaches with data visualization through her rich experience in applying efficient computing models and data mining techniques for various industry problems. She is passionate about teaching and lifelong learning. Through collaborations with industry and universities, Sita develops practical case studies for her classroom teaching by relating industry problems in the e-business, e-security and e-health domains.  Sita has also initiated partnership between Melbourne Polytechnic and SAS Institute in establishing Joint Certification Programs for their Bachelor of IT students.

Sita earned her PhD in 1993 from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai, with a thesis titled “Efficient Parallel Algorithms for Pattern Recognition”. She also holds a Master of Technology and Master of Science from the Indian Institute of Technology. Her excellence in  teaching is assured by her Master of Education from the University of Sheffield. Sita  has won several research grants including the Melbourne Polytechnic R&S grants in 2018 and 2019. She was also a recipient of 2017 Melbourne Polytechnic Team Award for collaboration across departments.
