Withdrawals and Refund Information

Refunds for Local Students

Your eligibility for a refund depends on your level of study, the reason for refund, and the date you withdraw from a unit or course.

Full refund of all payments will be made for any course cancelled by Melbourne Polytechnic providing the student submits the Refunds Application Form.

For students fully or partially withdrawing prior to or within 28 days of confirmed course
commencement or re-enrolment commencement date:

  1. Read the Refund and Fee Information flyer to determine your eligibility to a refund regarding class or course withdrawal.
  2. Read the Applying for Refunds page.
  3. Complete the Refunds Application form prior to or within 28 days of confirmed course commencement or re-enrolment commencement date.
  4. Notify your Melbourne Polytechnic teaching department in writing of your request to withdraw prior to or within 28 days of confirmed course commencement or complete the Student Request Form

You will receive a written notification about the result of your refund request.

Refunds will not be granted after twenty-eight (28) days, except in special circumstances.

  1. Read the Refund and Fee Information flyer to determine your eligibility to a refund regarding class or course withdrawal.
  2. Read the Applying for Special Circumstances Refunds (Certificate I-IV) page.
  3. Complete the Special Circumstances for Refunds (Certificate I-IV) Application Form with the required attachments.

You will receive a written notification about the result of your refund request.

Re-credit/remission (refund) will not be granted after census date, except in special circumstances.

  1. Read the Refund and Fee Information flyer to determine your eligibility to a refund regarding class or course withdrawal.
  2. Read the Applying for Remission/Re-credit of FEE-HELP Debt Under Special Circumstances (refunds) page.
  3. Complete the Application for Remission/Re-Credit of FEE-HELP Debt - Special Circumstance form with the required attachments.
You will receive a written notification about the result of your refund request.

A refund or transfer is only possible if you apply at least five (5) business days prior to the course commencing.

A standard handling fee of 10% of the advertised course fee will be deducted from each refund except in the instance where the course is cancelled by the Institute.  

The following applies to all Short Course refunds:

  • If a student withdraws at any time up to 5 business days prior to the commencement date of a course, the Institute will refund enrolment fees paid less 10% to a maximum of $50.00. 
  • If a student withdraws less than five (5) business days before the commencement date of a course, the Institute will not refund any fees. 
  • For students enrolled in the Licensed Electrical Assessment Course there will be no refund of fees for requests received less than ten (10) business days prior to the course commencement date.  
  • If a course is cancelled by the Institute at any time during the period of a student’s enrolment, the student will be entitled to a full refund of fees paid, or a transfer to another course.

In cases where special circumstances result in a student withdrawing within five (5) days or less of the course commencement date, the student must contact the Manager of Short Courses in writing at shortcourses@melbournepolytechnic.edu.au to discuss refund or course transfer options.

All eligible Short Course refunds that are withdrawn up to five (5) business days prior to the commencement date of the course, or are cancelled by Melbourne Polytechnic, students need to submit a refund form via the Refunds Application Form page.

Refunds for International Students

All applications for refund for International Students should be made by submitting an International Student Withdrawal and Refund Application Form to the Melbourne Polytechnic International Office.
